Greece: five family-friendly hotspots

Greece is popular holiday destination for newlyweds, foodies, history hounds, sun seekers, culture buffs and…families!

The Greeks are very family orientated, so if you are looking for somewhere to jet off with your little ones this summer, Greece is the perfect destination. However, with the mainland and thousands of islands to choose from, narrowing down where to go on holiday can be quite difficult.

Rhodes

One of the most popular Greek islands, Rhodes is a popular choice for people with children. There are several resorts to choose from, including Faliraki and Lindos.

While it might be more commonly associated with a vibrant nightlife, Faliraki is also home to 24 Blue Flag beaches and a water park. There is also an aquarium and Butterfly Valley to keep the kids entertained.

Corfu

You could argue that Corfu is the most attractive island in Greece, thanks to its lush green landscape, which is covered in olive groves, cypresses and orchids. It’s another popular choice for British holidaymakers as it offers fantastic beaches and loads of things to do.

It’s also worth taking a trip to the historic Old Town to soak up a bit of history. Unsure where to stay? Thomas Cook Greece holidays offer a great range of resorts, including Elounda, Sissi and Malia.

Crete

The largest Greek island, Crete is home to miles and miles of spectacular coastline and one of the longest summers in Europe. With plenty of attractions and activities, it’s no wonder that it’s a hotspot for families.

You’ll be able to explore historical sites, go swimming or do watersports in the sea, as well as visit places like the Creraquarium and the waterpark.

Zanté

This island, also known as Zakynthos, is one of the southernmost islands in the Ionian Sea. It has beautiful Blue Flag beaches, with white sands and turquoise blue seas, as well as olive and fruit groves covering the land.

Whether you want to relax in a secluded cover or grab a sunbed on popular stretches of coastline, you and the kids will have a blast.

Paros

The lesser known of the five islands, Paros is a great destination for people with families. There are some incredible beaches for you and the children to enjoy, including Livadia Beach – best for watersports, Souvlia Beach – best for relaxing, and Santa Maria Beach – best for sunbathing.

When you’ve had enough of the beach, go to Naoussa waterpark or Kakou Riding Centre for some real child-friendly fun.
