No one ever said that being a parent was easy. Little ones require constant care and attention, which includes lots of entertaining, especially during the holidays. So that means any days out that you can take them on that will spark their imaginations and not cost a fortune are well worth knowing about.
Of course, there are the traditional family fun destinations like theme and water parks but for a family of four the costs can soon add up.
Sporting occasions also make for great days out but, again they can cost a bit more. Even with family tickets and enclosures at many sports programmes, a day out can leave you seriously out of pocket.
When you’ve got plenty of things to pay for in and around the home, such as double glazing for sash windows, energy bills, not to mention all the everyday costs that little ones seem to rack up, these attractions can be out of the question for many families.
Of course, this being the UK, there are plenty of places you can take your kids to for free. Etched in history, churches, museums and castles can entertain as well as educate and stimulate children of all ages.
Exploring the countryside and the beach are also great days out to enjoy for free. Doing something outside and active is an excellent way to get your children to exercise and use up some of that seemingly endless energy supply they have, which will certainly come in handy later on when it’s time for bed.
Day trips to great UK cities like London, Manchester and Birmingham are also ideal ideas to keep kids entertained as there is plenty to see and do. With shops, restaurants and events throughout most UK major cities, it’s always a fun day out for the whole family with many free activities and options for kids during the school holidays.
The most important thing to remember is to try and engage your kids. Even the most seemingly boring attraction can be enlivened with a little creativity. Play games and be silly, after all, it doesn’t really matter where you are as long as you’re spending quality time together.
