Have you ever wanted to travel to one of the world’s oldest theme parks? Opened in 1952, Efteling is by far the largest and oldest theme park located in the Netherlands. It was designed by Anton Pieck alongside filmmaker Peter Reijnders. What started out as a nature park and fairy tale forest has turned into a full blown theme park which includes a wide variety of amusement rides. Perfect for both adults and children alike, Efteling will provide you with its unique cultural essence, including its romantic, nostalgic and sometimes dark themes. Although this theme park predates Disney Land by three years, it unfortunately was not inspired by it as some may believe. Instead, the park is fantasy themed and based around varying elements of folklore, fables, mythology and ancient legends.
With over 4 million visitors each year, Efteling provides park patrons a chance to ride five tantalizing roller coasters (including the scary ‘Python’ double loop corkscrew coaster!), four very large water rides, as well as many more unique attractions. Combining stunning architecture and high quality ride designs, as well as its beautiful greenery and landscaping, you can say the success of Efteling has been attributed by its constant high standards. The park has won numerous awards including the Pomme d’Or (Golden Apple), which is the highest award in the European tourist industry for promoting and raising Europe’s level of tourism.
Covering over 160 acres, this breathtaking theme park is divided into four different themed areas. The Efteling resort consists of five separate divisions as well. These include the theme park itself, the 18-hole golf course, the four-star Efteling hotel, the Efteling theatre and a new holiday park filled with bungalows. With so many sights to see, and so many rides to try, you surely will never become bored at this magical, fairy tale wonderland! So when is the best time to visit? Unfortunately there are no special formulas to know when to go, but a basic rule of thumb is to know that the months between April and September are high-season, and October through March are considered off-season. Weekends will most likely always be busier than weekdays, as most theme parks are.
Now that you know a little about Efteling, maybe it is time to start planning a vacation to this wondrous landscape nestled in the Netherlands! With gorgeous gardens, fairy tale scenery and wildly fun amusement rides, this theme park is sure to please you and your loved ones.
